We were thrilled to help unveil a new memorial paying tribute to to Humberside’s service dogs, past and present.
Our Chairman and Co-Founder Kieran Stanbridge presented a memorial plaque to feature in the dedicated area inside the Humberside Police memorial garden.
Kieran joined esteemed guests including Assistant Chief Constable Mike Walker, police dog handlers, trainers and retired police dogs to unveil the plaque and pay tribute to all of the area’s dogs who have served.
Former Humberside Police general purpose dog RPD Neo – who needed life-saving surgery for gastric torsion, which we paid for – was the guest of honour.
Kieran said: “Our police dogs dedicate their lives to fighting crime and keeping their communities safe so to have a memorial which commemorates all that they give is a lovely gesture to honour their service.”
PC Dog Handler Steve Matthews said: “Our police dogs are more than just a tactical option – they are partners in every sense.
“This new memorial serves as a lasting reminder of the extraordinary contributions made by Humberside’s police dogs and their handlers. It stands as a place of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for all who have served.”
RPD Neo worked with Humberside Police until his retirement, in 2018, at the age of four. He was adopted by a fellow police officer who had worked with him and fell in love with him.
But when Neo fell ill suddenly and was hospitalised, vets said he needed expensive life-saving surgery after his stomach had twisted and filled with gas or fluid.
We offered to cover the cost of the entire £4,000 bill and, thankfully, Neo made a full recovery and was able to attend the special event to pay his respects to his fellow two-legged and four-legged colleagues at the new memorial garden.
