MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG RONNIE
RPD Ronnie worked as a search and detection dog for Kent Police sniffing out cash, drugs and weapons.
He was originally handled by another officer before re-handling with Jenny Preston in 2018. When Jenny retired in 2019, Ronnie and her general purpose dog, Jabba, retired with her.
Jenny said: “Ronnie was a super dog to work with. He was such a character and really lived for the moment.”
She added: “When we retired we were inseparable. Ronnie was my constant shadow; he was so loving and wanted to be with me all the time.”

Ronnie was registered with the Foundation – along with Jenny’s three other retired police dogs – and had unexpected vet visits, after eating things he shouldn’t, which we paid for.
Jenny said: “Ronnie had a history of stealing things – especially socks – and on one occasion at work he ate rat poison blocks that were found under a kitchen cabinet.
“Sadly his penchant for stealing was his downfall. In December 2021, he ate a reel of thread that unravelled through his intestines and, despite a four-hour operation to remove it, he died the following day.”

IN MEMORY OF
RPD RONNIE 2012-2021
“Ronnie was so loving and just wanted to be with me; there was always part of him touching me, wherever I was. I miss my little black shadow and a Ronnie-shaped piece of my heart is gone forever.” – Jenny
