HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG QUANTUM IN RETIREMENT
RPD Quantum spent six years working with Nottinghamshire Police as a general purpose dog, where he totalled more than 250 arrests.
He joined the force in 2016 after being gifted by another unit in memory of PD Rebus, who was killed while on duty in an accident, and was partnered with PC Jen Ellse.
The nine-year-old was named was named as a runner-up in the Outstanding Bravery category at our inaugural Thin Blue Paw Awards where he received a ‘Highly Commended’ certificate.
In 2018, he was stabbed in the face while trying to detain two robbery suspects who he’d tracked from the crash site of a car they’d stolen.
And in 2020 he was injured again as he detained an offender, who had knocked a British Transport Police officer unconscious, at Nottingham Train Station. He was beaten and injured by a large piece of wood with a nail in it.
He retired in 2022 due to ill health and went to live with Jen. She said: “He now enjoys spending his time on long walks, having belly rubs and relaxing with his big sister, Pip. His favourite place to be is lying in front of the log burner with me at home.”
Quantum struggles with joint pain so we fund monthly supplements to help with the pain and with his mobility.
“The funding covers supplements to help Quantum live a pain-free life and retirement. The support from Thin Blue Paw helps him adjust to life outside the police.”
Jenn, Quantum’s former handler and owner
