MEET RETIRED POLICE DOG HEIDIE
What are the highlights from Heidie’s career?
“Heidie had a varied career which included locating a number of missing people, including a couple of vulnerable individuals, and catching criminals and finding evidence.”
What does retirement look like for Heidie?
“Heidie is slowly enjoying retirement after working hard for Police Scotland. She enjoys long walks in the woods and on the beach, and playing with Leo the springer spaniel.”
What’s your favourite memory with Heidie since her retirement?
“A recent day out to the beach at St Andrews where she paddled in the sea and dug holes in the sand.”
Tell us a funny story about Heidie…
“Every night when we go to bed she sits in the stool at the window and watches everything, we say she is ‘Paw Patrol’!”
MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG HEIDIE IN RETIREMENT
RPD Heidie served with Police Scotland from 2018 as a general purpose dog.
She joined at just 16-months-old after being handed over to the police by her owners, and she was partnered with handler, Jo Devlin.
When Jo retired in 2022, Heidie was too old to be re-handled so the decision was made for her to retire with her. She couldn’t bear to be parted from her partner so she adopted her.

Jo said: “It was obvious I was going to keep her when she retired; we’re a team.
“Heidie had an excellent nose and was an exceptional tracker. She’s very feisty and likes to think she’s the boss. She scared many ‘baddies’ while on patrol!”
Thankfully, eight-year-old Heidie is currently in good health but Jo felt relieved when she registered her with the Foundation for peace of mind.

“It’s reassuring knowing that help and support is always available if required.”
