HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG BILLY IN RETIREMENT

RPD Billy worked for six years as a general purpose dog for Norfolk Constabulary before retiring in 2020 to live in Norwich.  

He qualified for the regional police dog trials and was excellent at his job; tracing fleeing criminals, tracking missing people, and helping at firearms incidents.

He worked at many local football matches and even featured in the Norfolk Police Christmas campaign.

As his retirement approached, Billy’s handler PC Frances Peters approached her friends, Lindsey and Richard Imeson, to see if they’d be willing to take him on.

Lindsey said: “Our hearts melted as soon as we saw his picture and we jumped at such a wonderful opportunity.”

Mr Bills, as he’s affectionately nicknamed, had some ongoing health problems including hind limb weakness, an allergy that affects his eyes, and a stye on his lower right eyelid. We help support his owners with tests and treatment.

Lindsey said: “He has daily medication to reduce the pain in his back legs and lower back and that has made him much happier and much more mobile.”

Lindsey added: “Billy is such a special boy and has a heart of gold. He’s wonderful; he makes us laugh every day. He loves to play and is full of life. His favourite game is to play hide and seek with us; we can play for hours and he never gets bored!”
